In Mumbai, the CBI filed a chargesheet against income-tax officer Sandeep Singh on Monday. Singh was serving with the Enforcement Directorate on deputation as an assistant director when he was allegedly caught accepting a bribe in August. He led an Enforcement Directorate search team during a raid on a jeweler's residence in Mumbai in connection with a money laundering case involving a Chinese-controlled investment app. The investigation was being conducted by the ED's Delhi team, and Singh was not the lead investigator. Following the raid, Singh reportedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakhs from the jeweler, threatening to arrest his son in the case. The jeweler reported the incident to the CBI, leading to Singh's arrest after he accepted the bribe in Delhi. Singh, whose bail application was previously denied by a sessions court, is currently in custody. Upon his arrest, the CBI confiscated a phone registered under a different name.
